Cabinet Handle Sizing Guide

Cabinet Handle Sizing Guide

Choosing the right cabinet handle is about more than style - the fit has to be exact. This guide walks you through how to measure your existing holes, understand the difference between handle formats, and find the right Bayside Luxe handle or knob for your renovation.

Understanding Handle Formats

Knobs

A knob uses a single fixing screw through the centre of the cabinet door or drawer face. There is no hole-to-hole spacing to measure - you only need to know the diameter and projection of the knob head. Knobs are ideal for shaker-style and traditional cabinetry.

Bayside Luxe knob options include:

  • The White Range Solid Brass Knob - 20 × 25 mm or 32 × 25 mm
  • The Brighton Range Black Knob - 30 × 25 mm or 35 × 33 mm
  • Elwood Modern Antique Brass Knob - 32 × 20 mm
  • Crystal Ball Cabinetry Handle - 30 × 40 mm (crystal and solid brass)
  • Hobart Hammer Finish Knobs - Small 17.5 mm, Medium 24.5 mm, Large 31 mm
  • Peppermint Grove Antique Brass Knob - 30.8 × 25.8 mmC

Cabinetry Handles

A cabinetry handle uses two fixing screws, each passing through a hole drilled in the cabinet face. The critical measurement is the hole-to-hole spacing - also called centre-to-centre (C2C) spacing. This is the distance between the centre of the left hole and the centre of the right hole, measured in millimetres. The overall length of the handle will be longer than the hole spacing.

T-Bar Handles

A T-bar (or T-pull) is a compact handle that uses a single screw fixed through a base plate. Like a knob, it requires only one fixing hole - but it offers a horizontal grip rather than a round pull. T-bars suit contemporary and minimalist cabinetry.

Bayside Luxe T-bar options include:

  • Albert Park Brass Shaker T Bar — 50 × 32 mm (single fix)
  • Camberwell Knurled Satin Brass T Bar — 54 × 31 mm, 24 mm base (single fix)
  • Hobart Hammer T Bar Pull — 50 × 34 mm (single fix)
  • Bellevue Brass T Bar Pull — 50 × 28 mm, 18 mm base (single fix)
  • The Toorak White Brass T Bar — 54.5 × 36 mm (single fix)
  • The Toorak Black Brass T Bar — 54.5 × 36 mm (single fix)

How to Measure Your Existing Holes

If you are replacing existing handles, measuring your hole-to-hole spacing accurately is the most important step.

  1. Use a metal ruler or tape measure, not a fabric tape.
  2. Measure from the centre of the left hole to the centre of the right hole.
  3. Record the measurement in millimetres.
  4. If you are drilling new holes, plan for your preferred C2C or HS spacing before drilling.

Note: If you are installing handles for the first time or filling old holes, a T-bar or knob avoids the need to match an existing spacing altogether.

A Note on 256 mm vs 260 mm Spacing

A common challenge for renovation buyers is sourcing handles for older or European-specification cabinetry with a 256 mm hole-to-hole spacing. This spacing sits between two common standards (224 mm and 320 mm) and can be difficult to match exactly with off-the-shelf handles.

If your existing holes are 256 mm apart, the most practical options are:

  • Fill and re-drill to the nearest standard spacing (224 mm or 320 mm), then select from the full range above.
  • Switch to a knob or T-bar, which use a single fixing hole and eliminate the spacing constraint entirely.
